MITCHELL
SKATEPARK
CONSTRUCTED 2022
MITCHELL SKATEPARK
MITCHELL, MANITOBA, CANADA
Designed and built by Drop In Skateparks in 2022, the approximately 5,300 square foot Mitchell Skatepark in the Rural Municipality of Hanover represents the power of a letter. The entire project was set into motion with a handwritten letter from an 11-year-old boy to the RM's Council. The young boy contacted the local Council because he and his brother would have their mother drive them to a nearby city to use their skatepark up to three times a week. The letter suggested not only that an outdoor concrete skatepark be built within the community of Mitchell, but also included a suggestion of a site for the skatepark to be built which later became the chosen site. The project attracted provincial funding through the Building Sustainable Communities Program, assisting in the overall funding of the project.
Inspired by the nearby site amenities, the final design of the Mitchell Skatepark was created to replicate a baseball diamond as it was constructed overtop of a previous baseball diamond site. The skatepark boasts of a large double open bowl in the shape of an 'M', a double spine, a corner bent penny and quarter bank, flat rails, round rails, a stair set, and numerous hubbas, all complimented by an accent of coloured concrete.
